So I created a blog. Why?

Another doggo, X100V

As much as I love Wix and the tools that they provide, I sort of wish there were more customisation options for the mobile sites. Specifically, the blog menu in mobile-only has two colour options, blue and white. I have tried everything, from revamping the entire blog, backing up and deleting it, to reload it to fix it, but it didn’t work. It suffices to say that I have spent nearly 2 hours just trying to fix that blud and white menu. But alas, I gave up. There is no such feature on this website. You’d have to live with it. I’m so sorry.

But why did I spend so much time and energy making this? Making this website took nearly the entire workday tomorrow - and if you know what I do you’d know that I basically do nothing all day. I just have my iPad open, watch movies, occasionally play games, watch a film or Youtube. I had to have something to do. The kick for me to start any sort of website actually comes from when I realise that all my filmmaking peers have some sort of website. I wanted one for a long time - my own, personal space, freer than Facebook or Instagram, where I can post my pictures, scripts, videos, blog, thoughts, reviews, whatever I want. I don’t think many used those websites for an opportunity to create their own blog space, and frankly, I didn’t as well. But when I was making this website, I realised that there was an option to create blogs. So here I go, writing down blogs, wasting time barking at an empty space that no one will see. Or maybe you, you special monkey. It’s me! The weird monkey.

Why now? Why not when I have finished my military service? That’s another story. I have a thing called NAS. It’s basically a small server of my own, where I can ’download’ (don’t ask me how) any films or tv series that I want and share it with my girlfriend.

So I guess I have to tell you why I got the NAS in the first place. I used all available resources to share films with her, from iTunes family share, uploading to Google Drive, to sharing on Discord. Each had their horrible discomfort. iTunes is clunky as hell on Windows. For Google Drive, not only I have to download films, I have to upload them and then my girlfriend has to download them. For Discord, it would randomly drop in quality or skip audio or video. These were very, very annoying. These annoyances with the fact that I was running out of my personal iCloud space of 2TB (yes, 2TB!!) thanks to my RAW photos meant that I needed a personal server. NAS was perfect for it. I downloaded movies directly to the server, then both of us could download at the same time, eliminating the need to upload and take up our space and tasks. That also meant that with my newly purchased iPad with its 5G capabilities, I can download movies to my iPad while I’m at work. (And that was one of the reasons why I wanted a cellular model.)

But it was few days ago, when I was looking ways to make the iPad’s connection to the server even faster - that I realised I could set up my own website. I looked for so many different ways to setup the website, until I realised that I had to change the entire routers in my family’s home. I did not want to do that again, after I set my server up. So I looked at other options and realised that Wix actually offers a pretty good pricing for personal websites. I was thinking of just using the free version, however the devilish creatures at wish offered me 50% off for first two yeares (!!!) which I immediately took the offer and now my bank is almost empty - with only 50,000 won in it. But at least, I have my own personal space. I have a place where I can post my works - photos, videos and scripts. I am working on all three departments to post more things on here. We’ll see how that goes. So hop along for the ride and see how it progresses.
